First Let's think
Do you chose your path depending on your chances of success? think twice about it....
From time to time, you get in life opportunities that you never expected. You have to make a decision whether to take them or not. Do you factor in your chances of success? No, I think that is irrelevant! Even if you have 5% chances of being successful, you should take. Your goal should be to part of something that outlasts you. That's when your contributions are most significant and mostly visible.

Now let's rollStrategy is 5% of your challenges. 95% of your challenges is execution, your execution skills
Strategy is important. Making a plan is important. But if you don't start moving, if you don't start executing (right away), you will never be getting there. At the end of the day, it is the discipline of execution that will get you there, and you will prevail.
- With little discipline, you do little things. - With a lot of discipline, you do a lot of things - With total discipline, there is nothing you can't do |
Then let's think again
Attributes of a Leader that are absolutely necessary in academic institutions
Number 1 is the capacity to connect with people, called empathy. It is actually your ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. That's the hardest. It is easy to connect with someone who "resembles" you (shares your interests, speaks your language, has your accent, shares your sense of humor - basically someone that "you like", that is easy).
As a leader though, you need to get out of your own reality, your own culture/rituals and your own way of "understanding things" to capture what is on the mind of your own people, those that are working for you. Those come in with their own culture, but also with their own strength. |
